Torque Wrench Calibration: Instrumentation

When it comes to torque wrench calibration, I often get asked “When should I re-calibrate my torque wrench? And should I wind it back to zero after use?” In fact, these two questions might well be the most frequently asked of all frequently asked questions and are rightly a subject of genuine concern for production and quality managers. To misuse the old wartime propaganda slogan a little, “Careless torque can cost lives.”

The Banbury based company has invested more than £1.6 million in new machinery, which includes the acquisition of two new Mori Seiki NTX mill-turn machines which are being used to machine electronic and gearbox products, including transducer shafts.

Norbar Appoint New UK and Ireland Business Manager

Norbar Torque Tools has appointed Jeremy Tucker as its new UK and Ireland business manager. Jeremy’s appointment comes as part of an expansion to Norbar’s global sales team. Jeremy will be responsible for managing sales and profitability throughout Norbar’s existing distribution network and is tasked with maximising torque solutions opportunities within the UK and Irish markets.

Norbar Launch Two Best-In-Class Gearboxes

Ideal for bolt tightening in confined spaces such as wind turbine towers, both the HT-92 and HT-119 combine new materials, better traceability and are the newest additions to Norbar’s new Compact Series of HandtorqueTM Multipliers.

Norbar Party Launches New Production at Banbury

Norbar Torque Tools officially opened its new premises at Wildmere Road, Banbury on  Wednesday 19th September with an on-site evening party for employees and special guests, including Sir Tony Baldry MP for Banbury, the Mayor of Banbury Cllr Tony Ilott and the Chairman of Cherwell District Council, Cllr Colin Clarke. This 170,000 sq ft production site is over three times the size of their present site Banbury head office and factory at Beaumont Road and will allow them to expand their manufacturing output in order to meet increased worldwide demand for their products.

Norbar Australia Management Moves

Important structural changes to the management team at Norbar’s representative company in Australia are taking place that also affect Norbar companies in New Zealand and Singapore. Matt Packer is to become Managing Director of Norbar Torque Tools Pty, based in Adelaide, South Australia and with offices in Western Australia, Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales. He is to take over the position from his father Leigh Packer, who will remain Executive Director of the company and be able to devote more of his time to managing Norbar companies in New Zealand and Singapore. 

Norbar is Oxfordshire’s Exporter of the Year

Norbar Torque Tools of Banbury, celebrating its 70th Anniversary this year, has triumphed at the Oxfordshire Business Awards 2012 by being voted the county’s top exporter. The Carter Jonas Export Award was presented to Norbar by athletics star Kriss Akabusi at the recent Awards Gala Dinner at Oxford Thames Four Pillars Hotel.

Norbar Sponsors Bloodhound Land Speed Record Bid

Banbury based Norbar Torque Tools has joined the wide ranging list of specialist companies, educational and professional organisations supplying products, services and expertise to the Bloodhound SSC (Super Sonic Car) project, that aims to push the world land speed record to an incredible 1,000 mph. At a time of resurgent interest in UK engineering, Bloodhound acts as an exciting focus for British experience in this area and an inspiration for young people considering a career in this absorbing field.

Norbar Torques Spitfires - Again

Norbar Torque Tools of Banbury recently delivered torque wrenches to nearby Enstone Airfield in Oxfordshire for the construction of brand new Spitfire aircraft. This event resonated strongly with key events in Norbar’s history, since the company was the first in Britain to commercially manufacture torque wrenches in the 1940s specifically for engineering Spitfire engines.
