Banbury Company Norbar Torque Tools goes Carbon Neutral in Support of Tolerance International UK

Tolerance International UKInternationally acclaimed, award winning manufacturers Norbar Torque Tools Ltd based in Banbury, Oxfordshire are 'doing their bit' and offsetting their carbon footprint with TICOF (Tolerance Int CO2 Free). Through TICOF companies can invest in a reforestation programme in the Amazon rainforest in Loreto, Peru. Norbar is joined by a growing number of organisations who recognise their responsibility to decrease the environmental impact of their business by signing up to TICOF.

Craig Brodey, Commercial Director for Norbar explained "We accepted Tolerance International's offer to do a free audit of our company's carbon emissions. We have, over the years, taken steps to reduce our carbon footprint but we still have surplus emissions which we need to offset. Two things made me choose Tolerance International's offsetting programme. As a not for profit organisation, every pound donated supports the programme. Secondly, Tolerance International's Environmental Justice Programme combines reforestation with community investment. Through TICOF we are sponsoring two communities in the rainforest. Before, the local people had to slash and burn the trees as their only source of income. Our two communities are being paid to plant and maintain the trees and they will benefit from fruit crops as well as improve their livelihood through alternative employment. We see TICOF as being similar to Fair Trade with the same ethical aims.'

Tolerance International UKTolerance International is a charity which promotes tolerance and moderation between people, society and nature for the equal benefit of all and for future generations. It achieves these aims through a number of programmes, including the TICOF initiative. Tolerance International's Carbon Campaign manager Anne Cooper said "We would like to congratulate Norbar Torque Tools Ltd on joining the TI carbon neutral community. We started the 'Do Your Bit' campaign to encourage individuals, businesses and organisations to consider the impact of their activities on both the natural world and people with whom we share this planet. As people in the UK becomve more aware of the social and environmental effects of their energy intensive lifestyles, they are seeking ways to balance this out. TICOF enables them to do this."
